Policosanol
Policosanol is a mixture of waxy substances manufactured from sugarcane. There is an ongoing controversy about whether policosanol is helpful on cholesterol or not. Most studies seem to have been done in Cuba, where the compound is produced. According to Wikipedia and Consumerlabs, there is some newer independent research that validates the cholesterol-lowering claim. There is evidence that policosanol is an alternative to low-dose aspirin in cardiovascular prevention to reduce blood-clotting.
